The Author, Charlotte Burtnett Ritter
This quietly remarkable woman left a fascinating
legacy to which she gave her
unique stamp.
Charlotte Eloise Burtnett Ritter was born in Iola,
Kansas, and lived in
Lincoln, Nebraska, Alton, and Quincy, Illinois, and
Akron, Ohio. Throughout most of her life, Charlotte was interested
in her family history.
She had the privilege of living in the same house with
her Fronk-Adams
grandparents for a number of years, and kept meticulous records
of
conversations with them about their early days in Kansas. Other family
connections go back to very early times in Scotland when the Colquhoun
Clan
lived on the banks of Loch Lomond.
She was married to Hartien Sharp Ritter and had two
children. Church
activities and service groups were a major part of Mrs.
Ritter's interests.
At various times she was a speaker, a writer, worked with knitting,
crocheting,
and embroidery, had interests in music and art, and served as a deaconess
for
her church. She was also a member of the Ohio Genealogical Society, the
Collectors' Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Daughters of
the
American Colonists.
Charlotte
Ritter was born,
married, and died on the same date, June 21, the
summer solstice, in the years 1918, 1941, and
1996.
Her family believe this
was her intention. Continuing the tradition, her granddaughter was
also born
on June 21, in 1988.
