The Resource Room of the Carol G.
Simon Cancer Center of
Morristown
Memorial Hospital is dedicated to helping cancer patients, their
families and friends, and members of the community find the information they
need about cancer. The Resource Room is a collection of books, audio tapes,
video tapes, and pamphlets, all exclusively about the many aspects of
having cancer. The center also has a touch screen computer dedicated to
cancer information, which is refreshed monthly by the
National Cancer Institute.
Some of the topics covered by
Resource Room materials are:
Treatment options
Descriptions of treatments
Specific information about various
cancers
Decision making
Inspirational thought
Nutrition
The Mind/Body connection
Family
Survivors' descriptions of the
cancer experience
If the information you require
cannot be found in the Resource Room, volunteers will tell you how to
inquire at the Morristown Memorial Hospital's main library, or help you
contact one of the Carol G. Simon Center's oncology social workers. In
addition, a telephone which is programmed with direct dial numbers to about
20 national cancer organizations is available for all..
Books and tapes may be borrowed
from the Resource Room either temporarily (perhaps during a wait to see a
doctor at the Carol G. Simon Center), or for a period of three weeks. The
Resource Room volunteers can direct you to the various sources of
information, or put you in contact with an oncology social worker for more
specific matters.
Volunteers staff the Resource Room
on weekdays from
9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and are
supervised by the Cancer Center staff.
