Zella Dea Fronk was born on February 18, 1891 in LaHarpe Kansas.  She married Donley Uriah Burtnett on June 6, 1917.  She died in Iola Kansas on March 4, 1980.  Her only child was Charlotte Eloise, born June 21, 1918.

Zella was the first of five children born to Harriet Ann adams and William Darwin Fronk.

Zella attended the University of Kansas when it was a 'normal' school, and graduated with a teaching certificate.  While in college, she took additional courses in art and literature, and continued to paint, sketch,  and write both poetry and essays all her life.  She was a schoolteacher before her marriage.

During her life in Iola, she was involved in local politics as a public speaker.  She was also a devoted member of  the Methodist church. A talented artist and writer, she wrote poetry and sketched still life scenes throughout her life.
