Parents of Harriet Ann Ritter and Christopher Sharp Ritter II :

Hartien Sharp Ritter (Butch) - 10/13/1918     Charlotte Eloise Burtnett - 6/21/1918 - 6/21/1996

Charlotte and Butch were both born and raised in Iola, Kansas.  They met in Junior High School and started dating in High school.  Charlotte attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, and Butch attended the University of Kansas at Lawrence.  They were married in the garden behind Charlotte's home at 423 North Walnut Street in Iola on June 21, 1941, Charlotte's birthday.  They moved to Alton,  Illinois, for Butch's new job with Western Cartridge Co.  They moved in 1949 to Akron, Ohio.

Dr. H.S. (Butch) Ritter and Charlotte Burtnett Ritter spent most of their adult lives collecting family information and researching their ancestry.  They were both active members of the Ohio Genealogical Society.

Charlotte became a member of D.A.R. in the 1960s. She also found that some of her ancestors were from the Colquhoun Clan in Scotland, and later, Block Island in Rhode Island.  Ironically, during a trip to Scotland many years earlier, Charlotte had her picture taken in front of a restaurant which stood near the ancestral home of the Clan Colquhoun before she knew they were ancestors.

Butch helped establish First Families of Ohio and served as President for many years.  He unearthed an equally impressive amount of family history, and even traced his ancestors to Umfridus, the first Laird of Luss in Scotland.

After Charlotte's death in 1996, Butch published a book of Charlotte's genealogy called "From the Banks of Loch Lomond to the Prairies of Kansas - the Ancestry of Charlotte Burtnett Ritter", with Charlotte Ritter as the author, and himself as the editor.  In addition to her genealogical research, he included many of the stories which she had collected as oral history from her relatives.

This is merely a transcription of all the work Butch and Charlotte did, which occupies many notebooks.
This website is dedicated to them with love.
