Samuel Burd 1901 - 1970
Samuel Burd was born April 18, 1901 in Philadelphia, Pa. and died on March 29, 1970. He was the child of Katie (?) of Vachnova, Russia, and Abram Burd of Vinitzeh, Russia. The family came to the US shortly before Sam was born.
Sam's brothers and sisters were: Morris, Simon, Rose (Rudnitsky), Rebe (Green), Neddie, Annie (Brown Brodsky), and Joseph, a.k.a. Herman.
Sam and Ruth had known each other for a time before they married in the 1940s.
Sam and Ruth lived in hotels (The Gladstone, ..) when their son, Barry Abram, was small. They later bought the pharmacy in which Sam worked, the Elmer Merz Pharmacy at 100 West Susquehanna N.E. (Philadelphia, 22, Pa.), and lived above the store. The pharmacy was active until Sam's death in 1970, when Barry and Ruth moved to Rutland Av.
