On Saturday, May 8,
letter carriers in Mendham, Rockaway, Madison, Chatham, Cedar Knolls,
Denville, Morris Plains, and Morristown joined postal
workers in 10,000 cities across the nation to collect non-perishable food
items. The annual National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Food
Drive is the largest one-day food drive in America, and this year was the
most successful yet.
A big thank you to postal workers
John Simpson, Bobby
Laimo, Mike Werner, Sam McHarg, Kenny Koehler, John Lyman, and Julianne
LoPiccolo for coordinating the effort at their post offices. And thanks
to the following folks for all their help preparing for the drive and on
the day itself: Louise Elsholz, Doug McMahon, Pat Miller, her wonderful
volunteers from Madison, Linda and Hans Heinsen, Russ and Bev Hall, Leslie
Erickson, J. Wright Witcher, and the members of Hilltop Presbyterian
Church.
We also thank
Candace Jackson from
Pfizer for once again arranging for a truck and crew to pick up the
donations from Chatham and Rockaway. And many thanks to the Pantry staff
and their families for spending the day at the Warehouse to unload the
incoming food and host a picnic for the 30 letter carriers who personally
delivered their donations to the Warehouse.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of the
participating communities, we received a substantial amount of food, which
will help keep our shelves stocked over the coming summer months.
